Say it ain't so!!

Warner Field tickets went on sale on December 1st. When I tried to buy mine last night -- less than 48 hours after they went on sale -- they were SOLD OUT!?

I figured there must have been some mistake, but a perusal of the Festivarian Forum suggests otherwise:

http://www.festivarian.com/index.php/topic,2122.0.html

Apparently we rocked it out so hard last year that everyone decided Warner is now the place to be...Victims of our own success!

All of which begs the question: NOW WHAT?!!

At this point I'm looking into condos. The only other alternative would be to camp out of town, but I don't consider that much of an alternative -- you can't stumble home from Town Park after the bus stops running.

Whatever is to be done, I feel like it should be done soon...Who's in for a condo?

Found and Lost and Found

What can be said about this year's Bestival that hasn't already? I had a great time and I know y'all did, too...And that's what it's all about! Hoo-ah!

During pack-out late Monday morning we found a navy blue XL "pro rainer" jacket in our camp site. If you know who it belongs to please let me know here...Otherwise it's off to the Salvation Army.

For what it's worth, I'll definitely be at the following concerts this summer:
June 29 (today) - Michael Franti at Red Rocks
July 4 - Blues Traveler at Red Rocks
July 27-29 - RockyGrass
August 10 - David Grisman Quintet at Boulder Theater
August 17 - G. Love and Special Sauce at Red Rocks

Pretty good chance I'll be doing Yonder Mountain at Red Rocks on Sept 2nd as well. If you're going to make any of these shows, drop me an e-mail and maybe we can get together for some tailgating / pre-party.

And in the mean time, remember: Warner Field is more than a place...It's a state of mind.

Hasta luego,
Hagn

Hi all,
I'm wondering who all is going to be there Monday night. I know for sure it will be JD, Emily, Hagn and I, but anyone else? We need to get a hotel room lined up ASAP. Let me know if anyone else will be there then so I know if we need one or two rooms. Thanks all...can't wait!!

Hey All!!

I am so excited for the music, partying, and hullahooping; but most of all I am siked to spend days in the sun (snow, rain, wind, or cold) with all of you!! The more I think about it I can't concentrate on anything! I was left off on the tent list, but that is okay! I helped plan a little bit on the layout and it seems well organized. I will be there in my new Hobbit tent! I am tenting (that is a new fun word) with Telluride Travis--and he is bringing two friends (Laura and Jason or call him Flarf). See you all there!!!

Love,
Lisa

Has anyone ever camped at Ridgeway State Park......I think it is near Ouray.

Also, who brought the very cool, with the secret compartment, wagon last year? It would be cool to have that again.

We're leaving in 9 days for the great state of colorado.....can hardly wait!

An update on the beer situation:

The folks at Smugglers brewery do not have a pilsner or a Kolsch for us this summer. They recommended we show up on tuesday, sample the beers and they will fill us up a keg of whatever flavor we choose.

The alternative would be to call the local store and have them get us a keg of blue paddle, which is what we drank last summer.

I am undecided. The brewery option is nice but their light beers are a Rye and an IPA. If we want a pilsner, we need to decide that now and order it up.

What do you folks think?

-Gus
An update on beer:

I was going to go with Smugglers Brewery in Telluride to provide this years liquid refreshment. Here is the issue. They are not selling the pilsner in kegs, they are not making the Kolsch. That leaves us with their Rye and IPA as options. The manager I talked to on the phone recommended that we show up on Tuesday, come down to the brewery and sample the beers and pick one. He said they can fill a barrel for us in a little over an hour. He was sure that they would have plenty of beer and plenty of barrels so there is no need to reserve in advance.

The alternative would be to go with Blue Paddle like we did last summer. I am fairly sure I can call the local store in town and have them get 2 delivered in plenty of time.

What do you folks think? There are advancages to each.... and I cannot make up my mind.

Hi all,

Telluride Central is in full swing!

Arrival

It might be helpful for planning purposes if we had some idea of when people are arriving. As it stands right now, it looks like Keri, Lisa, Hagn, and a couple of Keri & Lisa's friends will be arriving on Monday, staying overnight, and setting up camp starting Tuesday morning. Gus and Tonya are arriving some time that day...Anyone else? Pete is still looking for a passenger after work on Wednesday if anyone is looking for a lift.

Camping arrangments

Hagn, Lisa and Keri have been discussing every blue print layout possible, and have finally decided on a sort of flat circle, with three kitchens and common space in the middle. The reason we decided this is because it makes us feel more "all together" while still keeping us seperate, and also provides the least amount of dead space where neighbors might hover in too close.

We've decided that instead of assigning people to particular spaces (or pods, or whatever), we're just going to save space for people that don't give us tents and let them pick their spot when they show up. For people that DO give us tents beforehand, we'll do our best to keep in mind that kids and Davis will want to be closer to the bathroom, but other than that the exact layout is TBD -- like everything else at Festival!

Food and drink

There comes a point when the logistics of making plans for too many people overwhelms the abilities of even the most ardent planners...And at 30 people, I believe we have reached that point. So, here's what we are going to suggest when it comes to food and drink:

Food -- Bring enough to feed yourself for about 75% of the time that you'll be there (everyone ends up eating all the yummy food at the Festival...trust us). Figure on sharing. It'll all work out.

Beer -- Gus is handling this. If you plan to drink beer please also plan on bringing at least a few bucks for Mr. Ewers.

Liquor -- If you like to drink, you're going to want to bring a lot of this (getting nalgenes of beer or mixed drinks into the show is no more difficult than, say, "lemonade" or "apple juice"). Everyone shares.

One last thing: All of this is fluid and, thus, completely open to additional suggestions or modifications...If you have some thoughts on how this should all shake out, please do not hestitate to say something. We enjoy doing the planning, but it's more fun when everyone's involved!

See you all real soon!!!

Much love,
Keri & Hagn
Curt and Cindy, if we can borrow that little foldable picnic table, that would be great! Sad you two won't be joining us...

Hagn, Megan's screen tent is going to be a kitchen, FYI (it's like the one Keri has). And it looks like LT is going to be getting us another sun shade?

Megan and Brian hopped on the REI registry and got Gus and I our portable grill, so we will have that to contribute to whichever kitchen our stuff lands in -- I also registered for a nice foldable table on REI that can be used in a kitchen AND double as a Beruit table if anyone has any interest (hint*hint). :)

Mine and Gus's tent is the same one that Keri has, so our dimensions will be the same. I'll try to get you Emily's tent size and Gus's other tent size that J.D. may be in or Ken (depending on if Ken/Dan share a tent or not and whether JD/Walter share a tent, or Ken/Walter with Dan and JD in their own tents? I believe Ken is bringing his own tent so he can get those dimensions to you).

Gus has been working on picking up kegs in Telluride so I think beer will be covered and everyone can just pitch in. Yay!

I say we do three horseshoes with the quiet/family one on one end and the late nighters on the other end and the in betweeners, well, in the middle. Each can have it's own living room and kitchen. And due to the children, the quiet area should be closer to the bathrooms if possible for those midnight potty runs! Whatever we do though, we should make sure we take up as little space as possible while still maintaining a good sense of space.

Also, for planning purposes, Sherman is no longer joining us, so you can take his tent and name off the list too, so I think that gives us 15 tents between everyone? And Gus is looking to sell Sherman's ticket, so if someone needs one, let Gus know.

I think that's all I have at the moment...
Cindy and I will not be joining you this year. I'm sure you will manage to have fun anyway.... If anyone needs to borrow something from us, just let us know. We have that little picnic table, plenty of chairs, etc. I'll be in Florida hopefully catching some groupers and sailfish!

WARNER FIELD ROLL CALL

[format: arbitrary tent designator - names of people in tent (tent dimensions)]

A - Gus and Tonya (unknown)
B - Emily (unknown)
C - Ali and Holly (10 x 10)
D - Megan, Brian, Jamus, Olivia (unknown, but probably big!)
E - Keri and Pete (8 x 10?)
F - Hagn (6 x 9)
G - Kevin and Dana (unknown)
H - Walter and J.D. [guessing?] (unknown...Bellagio?)
I - Ken [no Sabra?] (unknown)

(unknown)

Q - Todd (8 x 8)

that's kind of a lot of unknowns, but i'll assume about 6 x 8 for every unknown single and 8 x 10 for every unknown double if i don't hear from people by setup time and try to cordon off some space to the extent i don't have tarps to save space.

if i don't have your tent dimensions above, let me know what they are when you can, get it to me before i leave (monday morning), and it ought to be waiting for you when you arrive...

and please let me know if i missed anyone!

FESTIV-ON!!!

We have two Warner Field tix available. Keri, are you still looking?

curt
Ok all,
Hagn and I (and whoever else wants to come) are getting together at my house tomorrow evening for camp set up and general T-Ride planning. So, whoever can share with us their dementions and how many tents/kitchens/sunshades they are bringing, by tomrrow, that would be GREAT! Sorry, for the short notice, Hagn and I just figured this out today. If we don't hear from you by tomorrow, we will just set aside space for each group of people. Also, any other ideas or suggestions about how we should set up are greatly appreciated! We'll let you know what we come up with, maybe even draw you a detailed diagram. =) =) Gus, you're on beer right? Should we do two or three kegs this year? We'd certainly all chip in! It just makes so much more sense than having all that waste ( cans, bottles etc.) We could pick one up Thurs, Fri and Sat. What do you all think?
Kare Bare
So in response to Tonya's question about setup of the camp....here are my thoughts.

What do you think about having one main common area with tents surrounding it but with three walkways going out that more tents could be down with the kitchens at the end of each walkway. Tho' maybe we should have two areas.....maybe one that is more kid friendly and one that is more recreational....maybe at opposite ends of the camp....for those that go to bed early.

As far as our arrival- Holly, Todd and I will be arriving Thursday by noon. We will need two spots for tents, one 10 feet by 10 feet and I'm waiting to hear the size of the other. We will have our canopy with us in Denver so if someone wants to take it down early and set it up you are more than welcome to or we can bring it with us on Thursday. Oh and we will have a table to contribute to one of kitchens.

What are our beer plans?

Can't wait to see y'all...

Ali
It's so very exciting to hear that we have THREE kitchens!! So are we making three horseshoes with three separate kitchens and three living rooms or how is this going to work? We probably should start tallying who is arriving when, who we are saving spots for and how big, etc. and mapping this all out. Gus and I will be arriving Tuesday afternoon and my sister, Emily and J.D. will probably caravan down behind Keri and company if that works. Keri, when are you leaving from Golden and is it okay if Emily and J.D. follow you guys in our Subaru (unless someone has room for them???).

Can't wait ya'all!

Love,
T.

Ok, having lived 7 years of my life in D-town (Durango) I suppoese I am required to share with you my favorite, sacred spot...not in a campground, free, and on top of the world. So, take Junction Creek Road, (which is actually 25th street, right across from the high school), west. Follow the road to the Colorado Trail parking lot, and continue up the road for about 8 milse ( I think). You will wind round and round, and pretty soon, you will start seeing camp spots on the sides of the road. I don't know how to describe to you my absolute favorite, but it is on the left, a few spots since you have started seeing spots, and if you walk away from the camp site, towards the mountains, you will end up in a field with an amazing view of little Durango and all of the surrounding mountains. It's so cool at night. Call if you have any troubles or want more directions. I am currently very buzzed and am not sure if this is making sense. However, it's a GRAND place and would love to pass on the knowledge. Can't wait to see you and am so excited to hear that there will be 3 kitchens!!! You all rock!!! OH, by the way, tonight, Ozzy began flying high in my back yard...he was too impatient to wait and the hoola hoops are awaiting along my fence line. The devil's sicks are in motion and FESTIVALLLLLL is just waiting to happen!!!!

Love you all,
Keri
Hello from sunny california! I can hardly wait for TBF to begin. Todd, Holly and I will be arriving around noon on Thursday the 21st. If it would be possible for the early arrivers to save us some space that would be great. Holly and I's tent is approximately 10 feet by 10 feet. I will check with Todd about the size of his. We will bring our canopy again, also 10 by 10. And Holly just got a camp kitchen for her birthday which we will bring. It has a table and a spot for a camp stove.

Thanks also for everyones ideas on camping spots in Colorado. I think we are going to check out either the Black Canyon area or join Megan and crew on the rafting trip. So does anyone have any recommendations on camp grounds in the Black Canyon and Durango areas?

Lastly, is anyone planning on going to any of the Night Grass shows? Thinking about checking one out this year.....possibly Thursday night as I am not a fan of the Counting Crows.

-Ali
The Gossetts have spent a very enjoyable morning drinking many cups of coffee and making Festival Plans....

We are bringing a screenhouse/kitchen and we also plan on making 2 meals for the group!! Thursday night we are thinking about softshell beef tacos, chips and salsa and Friday morning pancakes and eggs for all!

We should be arriving in Telluride on Wednesday @ 2:00. We will be in Durango on Monday & Tuesday for some rafting. If anyone is interested you are more than welcome to join the group.

It would be greatly appreciated if the early birds could save us a spot. We are on the hunt this afternoon for a new tent to accomodate our growing children and we will send out the dimensions as soon as possible.

So excited!!!
See you all soon
Megan

Hi all! This is grand! I am at the point of the season where I can barely sit still I know how close we are to launch time! And this year, we get a double celebration!! Yay Tonya and Gus! I'm looking forward to it all. So...as I mentioned earlier, I think we are going to be right at or over 30 people. Last year, there were just too many in the kitchen, especially with coolers and all. So, I am in favor of actually a THIRD kitchen, one per 10 people or so. That kitchen also had a tendency of getting nasty, so I am proposing some kitchen rules. =) Like, if you use it, clean it. If it's full, empty it. I know, seems pretty basic, but some mornings when we are rather low functioning, some of that can become complicated. I too will be going down to set up early. As will Sarah and Lisa and crew, I think. So, we should have plenty of people to set up and save space. We will just need to know exactly what. We can worry about that count later. I would say, the more people that can come early, should, otherwise we look like a bunch of hogs for space. =) Ozzy (yes spelled that way because I am referring to the flag) and I'm sure Pizey are ready to fly!!! Ozzy is going to get a test run this year at Wakarusa! Sorry for the length all. Can't wait to see everyone!!
Kare Bare
P.S. Pete is going to be coming down sometime after work on Wednesday. Anyone else leaving around then? Also, looking for one more ticket still if anyone hears of one.

Nice picture there Ali...
I cannot wait to get this party started again this year.
See you all soon.

Hey Ozzy!

Good to hear from you. Very cool that you will be coming back this year, I think it is going to be a great year.

Holly, Todd and I are going to be in Colorado about 5 days before the festival and are planning to do some camping, hiking, sight-seeing etc around Colorado.....if you are interested in joining us for all or part of it we would love to have you. Haven't really made an itinerary.....if you have an ideas please let us know.

I'm going to Geneva and Rome in April....excited to get back to the continent, even if the dollar is practically worthless these days! Ever been to Switzerland? I'm trying to figure out what to see besides Geneva.

Anyway, great to hear from you and I'm excited to see you this summer....my email is apackard@att.net if you want to get in touch about traveling around Colorado.

Peace!
